Profile: Amos was born in the kingdom of Judah, but moved
north to the kingdom of Israel to prophesy there. Under the King in
Israel, Yeravam II, Israel’s borders grew and there was a period of economic
prosperity. Despite this, there began to emerge a poor underclass who did not
take part of this period of prosperity. Amos has gone into hiding because
he spoke out vocally against the rich who have been ignoring the poor. He
has earned the ire of the wealthy and the influential. Amos has also
spoken prophecies against the King’s Priest who has set up a Temple in the
north to rival God’s temple in Jerusalem. This too has earned him the
hatred of the upper classes. The royal court seeks to find Amos to force
him to return to Judah and to leave the Northern Kingdom. All in all, not many people like him. But this web site will help change this. Send this link on.
